Support our Spanish and Denmark exchange programs!
/VIMSIA community and families,
We hope that this message finds you well, your holiday season full of joy and blessing, and ready for a great end of the year and start to 2023. We are reaching out for support with our Spanish and Denmark exchange programs this year.
Danish exchange
As many of you know, we restarted our VIMSIA-Gefion exchange program with our partner school in Copenhagen, Denmark. This exchange program is centered on understanding the shared historical and cultural legacy between the islands and Denmark, and how societies work to remember and restore historical memory. We took grade 10,11 & 12 students to Denmark in October, and in January we will be hosting the Danish students and visiting scholars here in St. Thomas. You can check out what our student were up to in Copenhagen in this Youtube video they created and read a summary here.
Dates for exchange stay in STT: January 20th - January 28th
Support needed:
Housing for 4 - 5 Danish high school students, ages 17-18. These are pretty phenomenal kiddos, very mature and responsible young adults. We are looking for a private room, or small studio.
Housing for our 2 visiting Danish scholars/chaperones. Bertha and Kristian are wonderful people, educators and scholars of VI and Danish history. We are looking for a private room, or small studio.
Donation of a half day sailboat or boat trip (local waters only) for the Danish students (10), and chaperones.
CASVI exchange
We are also restarting our CASVI-VIMSIA Spanish language and culture exchange program this year for our grade 8 and 9 students. VIMSIA will host 10 8th and 9th grade Spanish students for 6 weeks, and towards the end of the second semester, our students will travel to Madrid for 6 weeks.
Dates: Jan. 15, 16, or 17th - Feb. 23, 24, 25 dates will be finalized in the coming days.
Support needed:
Housing for CASVI chaperone(s) the first and last week of the exchange. Ideally, a small studio, but a private room will work too. This would only be for the first and last week of the exchange program. Students will be staying with host families.
Donation of a half day sailboat or boat trip (local waters only) in late January or February for Spanish students and VIMSIA host students, with chaperone. (22 total).
Please feel free to reach out to Mr. Ott by phone or email with questions or if you’re able to help.
