An essential introduction and refresher for new and returning families!
Math Materials in the Elementary Environment
Location: Lower Elementary Classrooms
This will be an evening of hands-on lessons. We will begin with an overview of our Math curriculum followed by the opportunity to receive 4 different lessons, presented by the Lower Elementary Directresses, Ms. DiFrancesco, Ms. Mattingley and Ms. Sampson and Montessori Director, Ms. Maccabe. We are eager to share the materials with you and offer a window into how your children spend their days learning these very abstract concepts with our unique materials that Dr. Montessori called "Materialized Abstraction".
Parents of children who will be new to Lower Elementary next year are encouraged to join us as well. Please RSVP to hmaccabe@vimsia.org.
PGIA Parent Night is an opportunity to learn more about the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program. This MYP-focused evening is geared toward Grade 7-9 families. The evening will include an overview of the entire program and delve into two specific components the MYP: developing the Approaches to Learning skill set and engaging in Service as Action. We will conclude with a ManageBac tutorial and Q&A.
Please join Montessori Director, Heather Maccabe, for coffee and conversation on Friday, January 31st at 8am in the Music Room. This is an opportunity to talk about Montessori and parenting and meet other parents. This community event is open to all.
Alison Awes, Elementary Trainer and Consultant will be holding a Parent Education about helping to foster independence, positive messaging and decision making at home. This is open to parents of children of all ages.

We will be discussing ways to support your child's Montessori classroom experience at home. When the environment is prepared for the child, their capabilities are almost endless! Please join Montessori Director, Heather Maccabe in the Music Room for our first monthly Parent Education Coffee. Each month we will gather to discuss Montessori Pedagogy and Parenting. After a few minutes of socializing, there will be a brief presentation followed by discussion. September’s gathering will focus on how our children are settling into the new school year, the importance of routines and consistency and the Development of the Will.
All are welcome to attend and new families are especially invited as it will be a lovely way to meet other parents at VIMSIA.
Toddler Parent Orientation will held in Ms. Stocking’s classroom from 3 to 4pm.
Toddler child care will be available.
Please join us in the Music Room where we will have a general Whole School Orientation from 5:30 - 6:30 pm with refreshments provided. Following there will be a PGIA Orientation and the Elementary Parent Orientation.

(Immediately following VIMSIA Social Hour) PGIA Welcome Back Night is an informational evening to meet the teachers, review policies and discuss educational programs in the PGIA. All PGIA parents and students should attend.
Parents and students in Ms. Satter and Ms. Mattingley's classes are invited to drop-in between 5PM - 6PM to meet their new teachers. This is an informal meet and greet to provide families the opportunity to meet the new teachers before school starts!
St. John Families: Mr. Bornn, our Head of School, has offered to pick-up families with the school van from the ferry terminal at 5:30PM.
This event is parent education for those students that will be moving up from the Primary level to the Lower Elementary level. Participation is highly recommended.

Childcare will be available. It is important that parents and teachers work together for the benefit of your child. Parent Education Meetings are an integral part of our program. We urge all parents to attend and take advantage of these opportunities to better understand the Montessori Philosophy and Method.
Naviance is the tool we use to facilitate the college search and application process for our PGIA students. It is to be used by the College Counselor, the student and the parents. Ms. Elger would like to go over the software with parents so that we can all get the most effective use of it.
