Touring a Digital Nonfiction Museum

For the last six weeks, Grades 4/5 students have been studying nonfiction texts in reading. They learned text structure from nonfiction authors and the craft moves that they used in their texts.  Students chose a topic they are passionate about—everything from Greek mythology to animals, plants, the World Cup and much more—to research and go into depth with using the style of nonfiction.  They learned how to organize chapters and pages.  They practiced how to  elaborate their work by adding examples, narrative true stories, quoting books and people, and using key vocabulary for their topic.  Feedback was given to students to help them revise and edit their books.  Students then published their book in an eBook format.

After the holiday show on Wednesday, families were invited to view their books and listen to the students proudly present. Every student had a family member attend the Nonfiction Museum, and it was a wonderful time of community and celebration of learning.
