Volts Soccer and Basketball Roundup
/Our 2023 varsity soccer season began yesterday at the Eudora Kean High School soccer pitch against the IEKHS squad. Our team started out strong controlling the field and with Zach Mitchell, grade ten scoring the first goal in the first half. In the second Amorie Carty, grade nine scored a goal putting the Volts up 2-0. Eudora Kean managed to score a goal despite tough goalkeeping by Gavin Johnson, however, VIMSIA ended up winning the game 2-1. There was a good crowd of students, staff, and families attending the game, so hopefully as the season continues we'll see more of our fans out there. Our next game is Monday, April 4 at IEKHS against CAHS. Go Volts! See you there!

The 2023 IAA basketball season has concluded for our junior varsity boys and girls and our middle school boys basketball teams. While it was a season of growth for all of our teams, we also consider it a successful one because it was the first full basketball season since 2020.
The junior varsity boys team was winless this season, however the margins of defeat decreased by the end of the season and a solid foundation was built for next season's team. This team was led by sophomores Miles Tolud and Seyande Smith, and freshman Kaden Fisher, Maceo Freeman, and Tristan Farrington. Our JV girls team finished second out of three teams, where they lost 2-0 to the first place Charlotte Amalie High School team in a best of three game play-off.

Our JV girls team consisted of sophomores Je'Dea Smith, Alessa Carty, Brooklyn Donavan, and freshman Sofie Kappel, Lexi Harris, Destinee John-Baptiste, Ve'Niya Callwood, Ellis Wisehart, and Mariana Brunt. Once again, everyone grew as the season progressed, so hopefully we can run it back next year with more confidence and game experience.
Our middle school boys team also finished their season winless, but nevertheless, more experienced and stronger by the end of their season. These boys persevered and hung in there despite their season being delayed several weeks, and then being condensed into a five game schedule being packed into two weeks. Our MS boys team consisted of eighth graders Caleb DeCourcey, Asar Gregory, seventh graders Dre Bloedorn, Mason Gardner, Eli Alvarez, and Aidan Farrington.
Finally, we want to sincerely thank our coaches Jared Smith and Brad Kappel for volunteering their time and effort to lead our VIMSIA basketball teams. Their efforts have set our teams on a positive path to lead our teams into the future.
