IB Learner Profile: Christine Rowe

In a longstanding tradition, each quarter PGIA teachers and students select 1 or 2 students to receive a Learner Profile Award. Students can only receive the award one time during their tenure in the PGIA, and recipients receive a special cord at graduation. These students model the best of what the IB Learner Profile is all about: Independence, Communication, Critical Thinking, Emotional Intelligence, and Open-Mindedness.

Congratulations to our first Semester 2 winner: CHRISTINE ROWE, Grade 11

“Christine is an absolute joy to work with; she is curious, desires to develop her skills, has integrity, is a risk taker and is fun to be around. Her commitment and work ethic coupled with a rare mindset that believes that effort will ignite ability serves her well. She is a kind and thoughtful actor and her contributions to the collaborative process make the project better because she is a part of it. She is a leader that models empathy by careful, reflective listening that motivates her to do what is necessary to bring out her best and the potential of others.” ~Mary Catherine Walden

“From her first days at VIMSIA, Christine has been a bit more of the quiet leader, the principled student, whose integrity of thought and deed seem to be a natural part of her character of being and habits of mind. She is the kind of person that just seems to know what the right thing to do is in any given situation, and acts accordingly because those are simply inherent qualities she possesses.

Christine is a caring and balanced person and student leader, supporting and helping other students and teachers as a maxim that she seems to live by. I have seen her be that gentle and tender force a student needs when they are in a moment of stress or anxiety, and have been the recipient of that caring nature as a teacher too.

Christine is a risk-taker. From her personal project, to theater, to being an IB DP student, to taking a huge leap to go to Denmark and host a Danish student, she has never been afraid to take risks that will challenge her to grow and persevere. Her growth as a person and student from being willing to take risks, to push herself beyond limits and comfort zones is apparent each day that I interact with her. Christine exemplifies so many of the IB Learner Profile traits and is a well deserving recipient of the IB Learner profile award!” ~ Bennett Ott

“Christine embodies the qualities of a great learner in every way, but two that stand out to me are her principled nature and her caring heart. Christine has an energy for life that is contagious! She's always the first one to step up and make our community a better and happier place. Whether it's through small acts of kindness like organizing celebrations for friends and holidays, or larger efforts such as leading the mural team or creating the haunted house at the fall festival, Christine always goes above and beyond. She's a great listener and always takes the time to understand others' perspectives. Christine is not afraid to take risks and live life to the fullest, which makes her a true inspiration to be around.” ~Sarah Cornette
