Bat Night at VIMSIA with Renata Platenberg - The "Bat Lady"

Dr. Platenberg at a “Bat Night”

Dr. Platenberg at a “Bat Night”

6:30pm- 7:30pm: Interactive games, displays, and talks about bat ecology and conservation.

7:30pm - 9pm: Watching and netting (hopefully!) local bats.

Bats are the only mammals native to the Virgin Islands! Though often misunderstood, bats play critical roles in maintaining healthy ecosystems. Join us for a bat-filled evening with Dr. Renata Platenberg, a UVI wildlife biologist, to learn more about these nocturnal creatures.

Beginning at 6:30pm, there will be interactive displays, games, and talks available for all ages to learn more about the ecology and conservation of bats. Visitors can explore the variety of bat species native to the VI, discover how bats use echolocation, and learn how we can help our flying neighbors. At approximately 7:30pm, visitors will set their sights on the night sky in search of bats, while Dr. Platenberg attempts to net a few of our local neighbors for an up-close meet 'n greet.

This event is free and suitable for all ages.
