Music Program Receives a Makeover

Big things are happening in the VIMSIA music world!  We recently received NEW instruments through our federal funding programs, and have modified our shelving (pictured above) so that each new and old instrument now has a home that will be safely accessible for students.

The program now has a "class-set" of Orff instruments (student sized xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels). Our music room is fortunate to have one guitar and one piano, which are wonderful for demonstrating concepts to the students, but being able to place an instrument (such as new Orff instruments) in the hands of each and every student in a group is critical for their musical growth. We also have a class set of recorders, ukuleles, and of course our Orff xylophones!

Below is a “before and after” of the state of the instruments when Ms. Byrd arrived in 2020. She restored these and they are still in use by our students today. We are hopeful that over time we can phase out the older instruments and replace them with newer ones.
